Q. What Is IRC?

A. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's a way for internet users to "chat" or talk to each other in real time by typing in what is to be spoken.

Q. Can I use IRC with ACE InfoSystems?

A. Yes most any internet programs can be run with your PPP connection with ACE InfoSystems.

Q. What do I need to get on IRC?

A. You will Need one of the many "clients" or Chat Programs that are available right on the Internet to download.

Q. So where can I get one of these clients?

A. Here are a few shareware sites to look for IRC client  downloads.

Q. Are there any chat clients for Windows NT?

A. Some of the 32 bit Win95 software may work on Windows NT but you will need to research on their web pages to be sure.

Q. Once I have my software, how do I get in on the chat?

A. You must first connect to us. Then run your IRC program. You will need some or all of the following information to sign on.

Q. What are these Servers?

A. IRC relies on servers to relay all the chat that occurs. Your IRC client communicates with the server throughout your connection with them.

Q. Where can I find more servers to connect to?

Q. Which servers are best to connect to?

A. The Usual rule is to pick a server that is geographically closest to your computer. After using IRC for awhile you will learn which servers perform better for you.

Q. Does ACE InfoSystems have a local IRC server?

A. No.  You will need to connect with on of the larger network of servers.

Q. After connecting to the IRC server I get a bunch of garbage, what's that about?

A. Every server has a Message of the Day for its users. It happens every time you connect.

Q. After connecting what do I do?

A. You can join any of the thousands of channels available. Some common channels on all IRC servers are #newbies, #chat, and #funfactory.

Q. Does ACE InfoSystems have a support IRC channel?

A. No.
